The best cheeses, the best brands from all around the world

Schratter Import was founded in 1928 by Alfred Schratter. In the 1930's, the introduction of luxury-class ocean liners equipped with refrigeration allowed the import of more delicate cheeses such as Brie. In 1936, our company was the first to contract with the ocean-liner 'Ile de France', which gained national coverage for being the fastest ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1973, Schratter Import was acquired by Universal Food Corporation; this was the catalyst that brought Schratter Import into the modern world of specialty cheese.

In 1990, Schratter Import was purchased by Union Laitiere Normande, with headquarters in France and became a division of ULN America, Inc. During the 1990's, Bongrain SA, the worldwide leader of specialty cheeses acquired ULN and Schratter Imports.

In 1997, Schratter Import acquired ANCO Fine Cheese from Kraft. This acquisition gave the company full distribution capabilities.
